However, Matiang’i’s statement should be understood as a claim about figures reportedly shared with the coalition, not as independently verified proof that Raila won the election.
What Happened in the 2022 Election?
According to the official results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), William Ruto received 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.49 per cent, while Raila Odinga received 6,942,930 votes, representing approximately 48.85 per cent.
Raila challenged the presidential election outcome at the Supreme Court. However, on September 5, 2022, the court upheld Ruto’s election and dismissed the petitions challenging the result.
